Actually, we all know what "Apollo 13" is about (at least those born before 1980).
And we all knew how ITIL works, at least the stringent version.
Reorganizing during the processing of a problematic situation, trying out new structures, rethinking hierarchies, that was new and worked very well.
The trainer was also top, not just a "game master".
The training was also very instructive far away from ITIL.
I'm happy to be there again at any time.

The joint recognition, learning and experience not only promotes group dynamics.
It quickly became clear how important coordination, communication and the firm will to solve problems are when working together; all the more so under time pressure.

Mission accomplished and save landing!
21.10.2019
| Ulf Wolfsgruber(SHD)
The simulation could very nicely reflect the peculiarities of the company culture and the daily way of working. Therefore, the level of knowledge was certainly very valuable and must be incorporated into the existing processes (which is again in the spirit of ITIL).
The introduction to the game was a bit confusing at first, but then clarified itself purposefully in the following game phases. As a rule, this "development" in the simulations is also intentional, especially the stress level created in the various roles.
Our trainer was able to convey the content in a very relaxed and practical manner and also provide additional tips on the topic of ITIL implementation.
In any case, a useful addition to the certificate.

The Apollo 13 simulation was my first experience with ITIL. As I am only a trainee in my first year of IT training, I was initially overwhelmed by the many technical terms. Nevertheless, I found the day very interesting. I found the idea of using a real NASA space mission (Apollo 13) as an example particularly creative.

ITIL ITSM theory with practical relevance and continuous improvement tested
27.09.2017
| Lothar Theisen(Db Vertrieb GmbH)
With the task of critical incidents using the Apollo 13 mission as an example, the knowledge imparted in theory was put to the test in the environment of event, incident, problem and change management - certainly under the realistic framework conditions.
The example, preparation and support by the Serview lecturer were very successful.
The materials used in the periods of the ITIL simulation, tasks of the roles used in the example (RETRO, FIDO, GUIDO, SSR, etc.) were partly not transparent enough, so that valuable time was lost.
The roles Mission Director, Supplier and Astronaut Crew combined in the speaker were too much. There is certainly room for improvement here, unless the people/participants available for the simulation filled all the roles.
Rooms, break times and catering excellent.
Many thanks to Serview.

The 2 days were an interesting and exciting introduction to a supposedly dry topic. The Apollo 13 simulation playfully conveyed the benefits of ITIL, to which reference was made again and again during the introduction. The many examples/transfers to everyday life were also very clear and helpful, making it easier to remember the contents and transfer them to our everyday work.

Topic well presented with Apollo13 - Simulation was very good, because people actively participated (no monologues) - Through the simulation it became clear to the participants themselves what is not running smoothly and must be improved - After each round was reflected - It became clear how important the work in the team is, but also that there must be clear announcements and structured processes - Trainer was very good - has transmitted the topic well

I liked very much
16.04.2015
| A. Kummert(Denic eG)
I really liked the simulation game for the prominent event, in which you could experience a large number of situations in work processes. A more detailed explanation of the rules of the game and possible courses of action could perhaps eliminate some ambiguity in the course of the game. Mr. König very nicely pointed out parallels to real working life and hinted at possible solutions. As a non-observer, I would have liked to see a little more room for reflection and transfer of the experiences/experiments to real working life. We could have benefited even more from Mr. König's advice.

The simulation was very interesting, well conducted and informative.
16.04.2015
| Natalie Burki(Fixit TM Holding GmbH)
In general, the feeling (across both groups) was that the introduction was not sufficient: no one knew how to deal with the different cards, what information was needed and what to fill in (e.g.: M-16 must be named as a solution). Partly it was too technical for logical conclusions, i.e. I can't do a logical check and initiate actions if I don't understand the contents. Once this information was clarified after the first round of chaos, it became more understandable. Improvement: running through a complete incident example before starting the simulation. Furthermore, the presentation of results with the improvements already achieved, the weaknesses still identified in the process, which could also not be eliminated during the simulation, as well as the resulting adaptation to the real work environment incl. derivation of measures for future improvement together with the participants was missing.

Hello SerView, slightly late but nevertheless my feedback on the Apollo 13 simulation at the Best managaement congress in Bad Neuenahr this year. Considering the short time (one day) Apollo 13 is a well balanced comprehensive simulation for ITIL. The training is very well thought out and therefore includes a large number of ITIL processes. The two moderators Timo König and Gerd Cardinale conducted the simulation very well. From my perspective, a clear recommendation for this simulation.

All around I was very satisfied with the Apollo 13 Workshop (WS).
16.04.2015
| Sebastian Stindl(Hermes Europe GmbH)
What I did not know in advance was that this WS requires at least 9 people for a meaningful simulation. In the document that I received in advance for the planning and implementation of the WS, it was stated that this WS is intended for a maximum of 12 people. However, Mr. Hinrichs then asked me again and said that at least 9 people are needed for a meaningful simulation of these workshops and that there were already groups in which, for example, 14 people were present. Unfortunately, we were only 7 people and thus had to divide 4 roles between two people. Therefore, the workload was unfortunately too high for these two people. We were able to reduce this internally by passing on tasks, but it was still noticeable. Otherwise, I found it very pleasant and also assume that we have mastered it quite well for our circumstances and also with the help of Mr. Hinrichs and Mr. Lausch.

A good, pleasant day
16.04.2015
| Stefan Hall(DRV Bund)
Apollo 13 has for me by the all over shining will to save the lives a little too little scattering and some blur. How did the CM already know in an early round about a change the world has not yet seen? Where did the puzzles come from and why did the astronauts talk directly to the developers (headsets). Maybe the real character will show up only in two days of simulation. One tiny criticism/suggestion: When casting the roles, I would have liked to see a lottery. This would have broken up structures even more and not pushed the "punctual" into a role. We had waited for the trainer to pick us up at the desk, but this didn't happen or we didn't realize it. OK, complaining on a high level which did not harm the fun of the game. The astronauts played their roles perfectly and gasped for air a few times... on the ground you always have enough of it ;-) Many greetings Stefan Hall

Apollo 13 simulation very effective
16.04.2015
| Oliver Uhlenbrock(BTC AG)
A few years ago, I completed the ITIL v3 Foundation. This concept did not have much effect on me personally and did not have a lasting effect. However, with a certain amount of prior knowledge and, above all, experience from everyday business, the Apollo 13 simulation is very effective! In this respect, we are trying to convince our responsible persons to allow other colleagues to experience this simulation as well... Two constructive suggestions for improvement: A short introduction to the technical world of rocket building (vocabulary) and an explanation of the very extensive material would have been helpful to get into the topic.

I have already attended several ITIL seminars and mostly it was a "dry" front presentation. Therefore, it was very interesting to see how you can convey the content and processes "interactively" using a real "story". The time flew by and was really fun for me and I think the whole IT team.

Before the introduction of a new ticket system, we had conducted the Apollo workshop. Despite extensive ITIL knowledge in our own ranks, the workshop made it clear to us once again what we have to consider in such a project. The simulation made it clear to all participants in a "playful" way which advantages can be achieved through ITIL processes.

Apollo 13
07.03.2015
| Adrian Hartmann(KKH)
This simulation was top notch. It began with a 1.5-hour humorous and impressively clear introduction to the topic of ITSM in dialog. The trainer succeeded in bringing the panel along with him and quickly got down to work. Although we already live important processes such as incident, problem, change and release management, the mission essentially revealed one thing. Clarity and transparency of processes and interfaces for all parties involved in the process are prerequisites for a functioning overall system. The event was a wake-up call and made us look forward to more.
