FAQ: Everything about the new PRINCE2® 7

With the 7th edition, an update of PRINCE2® will soon be launched on the market. This means that the popular project management method will meet the requirements of modern working life even better. In our FAQ, we tell you what new features you can expect - and what this means for your certification.

PRINCE2® 7: What are the most important changes?

• The integration of people: Peopleare central to successful projects and therefore now part of the PRINCE2 method.
• Digital and data: To meet the changing demands of modern project management, a digital and data management approach was added.
• Fully customizable to enable agility: Customization is demonstrated throughout the methodology using scenarios. This enables project managers to quickly and easily respond to changes or challenges.
• Improved flexibility: rules have been reduced and chapters streamlined, but the core elements have been retained.
• Project Performance: Sustainability was added as a seventh aspect of project performance.
• PRINCE2 for all: Simplifications of language and content can be found everywhere to make the method more accessible to all.

What are the advantages of the new version?

The latest changes increase flexibility, prioritize people and their collaboration, and take into account current trends and the project context. In doing so, they ensure that PRINCE2 remains relevant and adaptable - and equip project managers with the tools they need to succeed in dynamic business environments.

The new edition of PRINCE2 offers project managers tailored approaches, stakeholder engagement, and performance monitoring. Companies benefit from consistent practices, improved success rates, and efficient use of resources.

When do the new PRINCE2 7 trainings start?       

As of October 16, 2023, the PRINCE2 7 Foundation, PRINCE2 7 Practitioner, and PRINCE2 7 Compact training will be available from SERVIEW.

In which languages are the new PRINCE2 7 trainings available? 

The training courses are held at SERVIEW in German or English.

How long do the training courses and exams take?

• Foundation Level
  Training : 2 days, Exam:60 minutes, Closed-Book.
• Practitioner Level
  Training : 2 days, Exam:150 minutes, 70 questions, Open-Book.

To pass the exam, you must answer at least 60% of the questions correctly.

In which formats are the new PRINCE2 7 trainings available?

We offer the training courses as face-to-face training in many major German cities and as live online training with a real date guarantee. The live online training courses are offered for both European Standard Time and US Standard Time.

Who is the target group for PRINCE2® 7?      

The Foundation is suitable for anyone who works professionally as a project manager or is involved in projects. The Practitioner level is aimed at(prospective) project managers and anyone involved in the design, development and implementation of projects.

What are the requirements?      

No knowledge or special prerequisites are necessary for the Foundation.

For the Practitioner level, you must have completed one of the following training courses:

• PRINCE2® 6th Edition (Foundation or Practitioner)*.
• PRINCE2® 7 Foundation
• Project Management Qualification (PMQ)
• Project Professional Qualification (PPQ)
• Project Management Professional (PMP)®
• Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)
• IPMA Level A® (Certified Projects Director)
• IPMA Level B® (Certified Senior Project Manager)
• IPMA Level C® (Certified Project Manager)
• IPMA Level D® (Certified Project Management Associate)

* Please note: Due to the numerous changes compared to previous versions, certificates of the PRINCE2 5^th Edition and all previous versions are not accepted as a prerequisite for PRINCE2® 7 Practitioner.

How can I prepare for the exam?    

Familiarize yourself with the official PRINCE2® 7 reference book and register for an accredited PRINCE2® training course - here you will get comprehensive knowledge and tips on practical application. The SERVIEW training courses around PRINCE2® 7 start in mid-October.

Does a PRINCE2® 7 certificate improve my career prospects?

With certification, you demonstrate your competence in project management, provide a competitive edge, and show commitment to your professional development. This opens doors to exciting career opportunities in project management and related fields.

I have the PRINCE2® 6 Foundation in my pocket. Can I use it to take the PRINCE2 7 Practitioner exam?         

Yes. However, we recommend starting with a PRINCE2 7 Foundation as terminologies have changed and new material has been added to PRINCE2® 7.

What happens with PRINCE2® 6?

Rights holder PeopleCert will announce the discontinuation of PRINCE2® 6 in due time and publish it at least six months in advance. SERVIEW will inform you about it afterwards.

Will there be bridge certification?   

No, a bridge certification from version 6 to version 7 is not planned.
